General Confence Oct 09

General Conference was outstanding this year. I identified with many of the messages delivered this October. I'm positive that many of them were written for me! How else could my prayers be answered so clearly.

Elder Holland gave such a vibrant and vigorous testimony of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon and the Restoration of the gospel. That's a talk that could be listened to daily.

Pres. Uchtdorf's talk about love being the answer was inspiring and gave me hope.

Elder Bednar's talk about being more concerned and diligent at home was fantastic! Express love and show it! Daily!

Elder Scott teaches us how to rely on the Holy Ghost and how acting on those impressions and promptings brings us closer to God and Christ and more in tune with the Holy Ghost for more and more promptings.

Sister Matsumori gave a similar talk on the Holy Ghost. We as parents have a responsibility to teach our children these important blessings and truths.

Tad Callister of the 70 gave a fantastic talk. If you haven't read his book The Infinite Atonement, I highly recommend it.

Elder Watson's dictionary talk on the word Temperance. Fantastic!

Elder Neil Anderson invited us to Come unto Christ.

Elder Ballard's plea to sons and fathers didn't fall on deaf ears.

Pres. Monson's talk on anger was spot on. It actually goes with my recent post on anger, selfishness and depression. Anger is cancer to the soul and drives the Spirit away quicker than anything I know.

Look forward to reading and listening to the talks again when they become available.

It is wonderful and inspiring to know that the gospel of Christ has been restored and is available to all mankind. Modern revelation through His prophet, Thomas Monson, is to be treasured. I know that I need to do better in following up on this counsel in order to draw closer to God and Christ, to become a better father and husband and to teach by example my family all that they need to know about the plan of salvation.

Depression and Selfishness

I've been thinking a lot lately about the connection, if any, between depression and selfishness. The more I study the subject the more I become convinced that there is a correlation.

Anyone else have any experience with these two or have any thoughts on the subject matter?
